Plastic Bags
I found this slideshow posted on livejournal, and I think it does a great job of showing why we need to reduce the amount of plastic bags that are used (or better yet, ban them altogether). I had no idea that so many countries have already banned plastic bags!
And if you haven’t seen the music video for Canvas Bags by Tim Minchin, you should. Now.

I just read some very fright-ening statistics on plastic bag use, which makes me angry that Shaw’s ONLY uses plastic bags, and that almost every customer takes home dozens of them, doing God-knows-what with them once they’re through. It was something like, it costs millions of dollars to recycle $35 worth of plastic bags, so you can’t even recycle them without using up an inordinate amount of non-renewable resources. There is no good reason to be that wasteful.
