“So what I’m saying is, when you’re older, most of you will be gay. Anyone writing this stuff down? Parents?”
I wish Ellen DeGeneres spoke at my commencement. The speech she gave to the class of 2009 at Tulane University last week was really funny and insightful. Here is the video:

Miss California and Perez Hilton
I think this might be the best response I’ve heard to the incident between Miss California and Perez Hilton. I thought the Miss USA contestant was just being inarticulate, but the time traveler theory makes perfect sense!

MP Iris Robinson suggests “gay counseling” for victim of homophobic assault
On Wednesday, a 27 year old man was violently attacked in the UK because he is gay. In response to this news, MP Iris Robinson offered the following suggestion:
“I have a very lovely psychiatrist who works with me in my offices and his Christian background is that he tries to help homosexuals trying to turn away from what they are engaged in.”
Not only is Mrs. Robinson’s suggestion ignorant and unfounded, but it is also insensitive given that the focus should be on condemning the attack, not blaming the victim. Not surprisingly, her remarks have sparked controversy.
According to Pink News, this is not the first time that Mrs. Robinson made her views on homosexuality clear:
Mrs Robinson, 58, made some memorable contributions to last month’s debate on the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill:
“I stand by my faith and the word of God that man was created in the image of God and that woman was created from the rib of Adam to be his helpmeet and companion. That is the natural progression of procreation.
The word of God says that procreation is through a man and a woman.”
Apparently, Mrs. Robinson is only interested in literal interpretations and narrow-minded ideas about what constitutes “natural” behavior. In regard to her comment about the creation of woman, the lyrics from Eve’s Mouth by Alix Olson come to mind.
Mrs. Robinson continued:
“We are moving mountains to facilitate immorality and to bring the rights of lesbians above all others in this country.”
She seems to be ignorant when it comes to the issue of equality, since it has nothing to do with bringing the rights of one group “above all others.” Thankfully, people better informed about both psychiatry and equality laws quickly rejected the remarks she made after Wednesday’s attack.
